Dates: Thursday, October 8, 2009 and Friday, October 9, 2009
Workshop Location: Hyatt Regency Hotel – Inner Harbor
Key Learning Objectives
CHIP will provide workshop participants with a clear roadmap towards implementation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and other advanced Health Information Technology (HIT) tools as well as prepare health centers for the opportunities and challenges of HIT in the ARRA era. Some of the learning objectives for this Workshop are:

Ø Learn the key components of effective RFP (Request for Proposal) development and how to use the RFP as a tool to support vendor selection and set the stage for vendor contract negotiations
Ø Learn about options for supporting, implementing and financing an EMR
Ø Learn techniques for managing the multiple “projects within a project” required for EMR implementation including project management principles, communication strategies, and workflow documentation and training methodologies (to name a few!)
Ø Learn how to develop a realistic EMR budget and tools for managing multiple funding sources
Ø Learn how Health Information Exchanges will further advance our ability to meet the health information needs of both patients and providers
Ø Learn the critical role of clinical leadership and how providers from every health center practice area contribute to the successful development and implementation of an EMR, as well as the long term evolution of workflows, clinical content and quality improvement reporting and initiatives
Ø Learn the legal implications of EMRs and proactive ways to address them
Ø Learn how to give “meaning” to the volumes of data your EMR will be capturing
