Supporting the Business of Community Health Care
In 1996, eight regional community health centers in Maryland joined together to address a shared challenge—the growing economic and regulatory issues that tested their ability to offer accessible, high quality, and affordable health care to the state’s uninsured and low-income residents. As an agent of change to address these issues, these centers founded the Community Health Integrated Partnership (CHIP), a nonprofit Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN) that provides services for quality improvement, operational and clinical management, revenue enhancement, and health information technology (HIT) to its members.
By supporting the clinical services and educational mission of its member organizations, CHIP assists community health care centers in providing improved access and satisfaction for patients, education and support for providers, improved internal processes and access to technology in its centers and administration, and research focused on the medically underserved populations they represent.
